Akello was born to a soldier father. When she was only seven months old, her mother passed away, leaving her to be raised by her father and grandmother. With her father’s support, she persevered through school despite many challenges. She has one step-sister from another relationship her father had. Being a soldier, her father raised the two girls without a mother, and life remained very difficult for the family.
After completing her O-Level education, Akello joined a pharmaceutical course, where she studied for one semester before her father passed away while serving in the army. After his death, her boyfriend stepped in and supported her by paying her tuition for one year and two months. However, while she was nearing the end of her second year, tragedy struck again—her boyfriend was shot and killed, leaving Akello pregnant and without support.
With both her parents deceased and her only source of support gone, Akello could no longer continue her education. She sought help from her boyfriend’s family, but they refused to take responsibility and asked her to leave. She found herself homeless and struggling on the streets until she encountered Agapelpis Teen Moms Support Center. Through the care and comfort she received, she was reminded of God’s love, gave her life to Christ, and the organization began walking alongside her.
As the organization could not meet all her needs at the time, Akello chose to stay with her grandmother. Sadly, her grandmother passed away just a few months after she arrived. Since then, the organization has intervened to take responsibility for her care and continues to seek compassionate support for Akello, who is now seven months and three weeks pregnant. Her unborn child needs a safe and supportive environment.
Akello carries much sorrow, but her story is not over. As an organization, we believe her story can be rewritten. We long to see Akello happy again, thriving and fulfilling her responsibilities, and to ensure that her child is born healthy and grows up in a loving and secure environment.
Akello is currently seven months pregnant and in need of a safe, supportive environment. If you feel led to support her journey toward healing and stability, we invite you to stand with her.
