Akello was born to a soldier father. When she was only seven months old, her mother passed away, leaving her to be raised by her father and grandmother. With her father’s support, she persevered through school despite many challenges. She has one step-sister from another relationship her father had. Being a soldier, her father raised the two girls without a mother, and life remained very difficult for the family.

After completing her O-Level education, Akello joined a pharmaceutical course, where she studied for one semester before her father passed away while serving in the army. After his death, her boyfriend stepped in and supported her by paying her tuition for one year and two months. However, while she was nearing the end of her second year, tragedy struck again—her boyfriend was shot and killed, leaving Akello pregnant and without support.

With both her parents deceased and her only source of support gone, Akello could no longer continue her education. She sought help from her boyfriend’s family, but they refused to take responsibility and asked her to leave. She found herself homeless and struggling on the streets until she encountered Agapelpis Teen Moms Support Center. Through the care and comfort she received, she was reminded of God’s love, gave her life to Christ, and the organization began walking alongside her.

As the organization could not meet all her needs at the time, Akello chose to stay with her grandmother. Sadly, her grandmother passed away just a few months after she arrived. Since then, the organization has intervened to take responsibility for her care and continues to seek compassionate support for Akello, who is now seven months and three weeks pregnant. Her unborn child needs a safe and supportive environment.

Akello carries much sorrow, but her story is not over. As an organization, we believe her story can be rewritten. We long to see Akello happy again, thriving and fulfilling her responsibilities, and to ensure that her child is born healthy and grows up in a loving and secure environment.

Akello is currently seven months pregnant and in need of a safe, supportive environment. If you feel led to support her journey toward healing and stability, we invite you to stand with her.

My Story

Acen Doreen

Acen Doreen is a 19-year-old mother of two children who has grown up in conditions of deep vulnerability. She is an orphan who was raised in a household of eight children. Her father was disabled and incapacitated, unable to provide for the family, leaving her mother—a peasant farmer—as the sole breadwinner.

Growing up in poverty made it extremely difficult for the children to access education, stability, and opportunities for a better future. In an effort to survive and find support, Acen and her sisters were exposed to early sexual activity and alcohol use, only to be abandoned and left without lasting help.

Agapelpis Teen Moms Support Center reached out to Acen during this time of hardship. As a faith-based organization, we shared the Word of God with her, and she gave her life to Christ. Although the organization is considering providing further support, Acen chose to return to the village to live with her struggling mother. Life remains very difficult, and she continues to face significant challenges as she cares for her two children.

Acen needs support to be empowered so that she can provide for her children and help them grow into a healthier and more hopeful future.
